The snake received a painful ending after approaching the hiding place of a crocodile family.

An American woman has just taken a series of photos showing crocodiles attacking a large water snake to protect her, Naples News reported.

The incident happened in Rookery Bird Lagoon in Naples, USA on March 24.

As the southern water snake approached, the mother crocodile rushed out to protect at least 11 baby crocodiles, according to Tiffany Gobert, who witnessed the incident.

Gobert, 34, is visiting the swamp with two friends and sees a tense battle. She said everything was "silently silent".

'Crocodile vs water snake', Gobert wrote captions on Facebook. 'This mother alligator is protecting me (at least 11 baby crocodiles are seen) from a water snake'.

When the southern water snake approached, the mother crocodile rushed out to protect at least 11 baby crocodiles.

Gobert added: 'The crocodile snapped up and chewed. We can hear clearly the crackling bones'.

Gobert and his friends then have to move away before the battle ends because the crocodile is too close to them. The outcome of the snake is unknown.

Network users are impressed with the image of the battle between crocodiles and snakes.
