Small gold is super expensive

A piece of gold weighs only 217.78 grams and is about the size of a golf ball, found in a river in Venezuela worth an estimated $ 1.5 million. The price is so expensive because it is determined to be a single crystal natural gold.

The owner of this gold lump in the United States, provided samples for geologist John Rakovan to conduct a crystallization assessment of four samples, all of which were found decades ago in Venezuela. The demonstration of these gold samples is a completely natural created crystal that makes its value very high compared to the real weight.

The Daily Mail quoted a professor at the University of Michigan saying that the atomic structure or arrangement of such gold-sized crystals has never been studied before. The team at Los Alamos National Laboratory used Lujan Neutron Scattering Center to look deep inside the mineral. Besides, they also use X-rays to probe and penetrate a few meters deep into most materials.

Three of the four samples were identified as single-crystal gold rather than conventional polycrystalline types. In it, at the same time, trapezohedral gold crystals combine to form a golden lump of golf ball size. In 2006, the world's largest single-crystal gold bureau was auctioned off, but the suspicion of authenticity is questionable.
