Smart anti-theft bike has a 'transform' frame as a lock

To reduce the risk of bicycle theft, the company Yerka Bikes (Chile) developed the Yerka V3, a bike with effective anti-theft capabilities, Design Boom reported on February 25. From aesthetics to function, the model ensures an important factor for users, that is safety.

Yerka V3 features patented anti-theft technology. The car uses a lock integrated in the frame. It only takes about 15 seconds for the user to lock and unlock the vehicle around a pole, fence, or most objects 20cm wide.

The rka V3 bike weighs just 12.9kg, making it a lightweight and versatile vehicle.

Wheels are also protected because Yerka Bikes feature specially patterned nuts, which require a specialized device sold with the bike to disassemble. Besides, Yerka V3 is also very flexible when it is designed so that users can install child seats or fenders.

A regular bike with locks can weigh 17kg or more. Meanwhile, the Yerka V3 weighs only 12.9kg, making it a light and flexible vehicle. Despite reducing weight, the car still owns a frame made of aluminum and chromoly steel to provide rigidity and safety. In terms of durability, Yerka V3 can withstand objects weighing up to 150kg, according to the manufacturer's tests. Another factor that helps increase safety is the ability to glow in the dark thanks to the reflective color strips on the wheels.

"Since the chassis acts as a lock, breaking the lock means damaging the vehicle itself. Any thief would consider this an impractical idea. If they somehow managed to break the pillar , fence or structure used to lock the bike, they can't pedal because the drivetrain is also locked," Yerka Bikes said.
