Smartphone screen will integrate security features

Glass on the current smartphone screen does not have many functions, it only displays images and receive the touch operation. In the future it will be added some special features.

Researchers at the Montreal Polytechnic have developed sensors that can be placed under the surface of scratch-resistant glass Gorilla Glass on mobile devices. These sensors can be attached to the optical waveguides to the screen, allowing them to track changes in light. So the screen can do things that previously only the sensor or dedicated circuit system can do.

At that time, your phone can check its temperature with light, and manufacturers can even embed a unique optical model into the glass so that the phone can identify itself, This makes it difficult to copy or duplicate (data, components of a smartphone).

There are also many advantages that we do not expect. Because nothing but photons travel through the waveguide, and can not be seen with the naked eye, many (and possibly many) sensors can be arranged without overshadowing the image. In the long run, this could be the key to making the most of electronic devices to hide functions from sight.

Despite the involvement of a Coring scientist, they do not currently have a formal plan for incorporating light sensors into Gorilla Glass. However, the Montreal Polytechnique believes in the practical applicability of the technology they create. The production line of the invention will be ready in a year, and the team is looking for companies that can equip these sensors in complete hardware.
