Howard Carter, an English archaeologist, spotted a folding bed made of wood when he entered Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. This folding bed consists of three folds, smaller and lower than the average five beds. often in Tutankhamun's burial chamber.

The folding bed is designed to be sturdy, elegant and sophisticated, bringing comfort to the occupants. It can be easily folded into a Z shape thanks to the ingenious layout, demonstrating the mastery level of ancient Egyptian craftsmen.

"There has been no detailed study of this bed since Carter sketched it nearly 100 hundred ago," said Naoko Nishimoto, who studies antique furniture at Musashino University, Tokyo, Japan.

According to Nishimoto, the test trail and some errors on the folding bed showed that the craftsmen built it without any other prototypes for reference. This bed was specially designed for King Tutankhamun.

"Folding beds are made up of a wooden frame, brass hinges and woven burlap. Bed legs are shaped like lion legs, helping to support a person's weight , " Nishimoto said.
