This bone is found in a population of caves dating to 47,000 years old Tabon era - still considered the first to live in the Philippines.

This is also the largest human remains of fossils ever found in this island nation. Because this is a relatively small part of the human body, the experts have not determined whether this person is male or female.

In 2007, archaeologists from the University of the Philippines and the National Museum excavated the fossil, the third bone mass of the right foot in the Callao cave complex near Penablanca, about the capital of Manila. north 335km.

The head of the excavation team, Professor Armand Mijares, said the team planned to apply for a permit to continue excavations at caves in Callao and hoped to find other parts of the skeleton as well as tools of these prehistoric people.

Professor Mijares also said that the Callao people also have some similar traits to modern Aetas such as dwarfs, curly hair, black skin - who are believed to have come from the first settlers in the Philippines.
