Darryl Cheng, who lives in Toronto, Canada, posted a time-lapse video recording the process of selaginella lepidophylla ferns sucking water and exploding, making viewers excited, Story Trender reported on November 29. Time-lapse is a technique to combine multiple images together and fast forward time.
Selaginella lepidophylla originates from the Chihuahuan desert. In the absence of water, this plant will curl into a sphere, the outer brown branches become a protective layer. When Cheng poured water into the tray, selaginella lepidophylla began to miraculously revive. They slowly bloom, spreading branches around and green again.
"During drought, selaginella lepidophylla can become dry or sleepless. When exposed to water, the plant will wake up and continue to grow. It is interesting to see them hatch through video time-lapse. They are also often sold as decorations in a dry state, " Cheng said.
