Successful research on dolphin breeding techniques

An Giang Provincial Council of Science and Technology has just approved the research topic of "Dolphin breeding technique in An Giang province", owned by Associate Professor-Doctor Duong Nhut Long, Can Tho University mission.

The project was conducted in three years, from May 2010 to December 2013 and until 4/2014 officially accepted.

The objective of the project is to build and transfer the technical process of producing dolphin breeds with technical specifications of 50% or more; fertilization reaches 50-60%; hatching rate of 60-70%; survival rate to fingerlings reaches 20-30%; Fingerling size 3-5cm / fish.

In the process of implementation, the research has studied the biological characteristics of dolphins, techniques of rearing dolphins in the ponds and cages, technical measures to stimulate artificial reproduction of dolphins, carefully feeding dolphins from fry to fingerling.

Research results show that, in the natural environment, fish breeds from June to August every year. Sexual maturity coefficient in dolphins is low, average 2.4%; The absolute spawning of dolphins is 4,220 eggs / female and reproducing relatively 185,717 eggs / kg / female.

In breeding conditions in the net (placed in the pond) and cages (on the river) with a lower maturity coefficient, there is an absolute reproduction of 3,773 eggs / female and a relative reproductive capacity of 128,000 eggs / kg / fish. what.

For dolphins nursing with many different types of food, the highest survival rate was 28.6%, after 45 days, the larvae in the net reached a survival rate of 69%, especially in the period of 45-75 days of age. .

The project after completing and completing the process was transferred to An Giang Aquatic Breeding Center to be widely deployed in the community.

Dolphin (Botia modesta Bleeker) is a freshwater fish with a size of about 3-5cm / head, the weight of about 40 g / head, white meat, smooth, fragrant, fatty, processed many dishes such as stock pepper, cook sour soup specialties of the head of flood waters. This is a precious fish species which is gradually decreasing in production, the price is from 150,000 to 180,000 VND / kg.
