Successfully restored the peach variety of Mau Son

With the help of the Center for Experimental Biology (Ministry of Science and Technology), Dao households in Mau Son mountain area, Lang Son province, are gradually recovering the famous precious peach variety of the region.

Dao Mau Son has long been famous in the country with its own colors and flavors. The peach is white and green, the sweetness is crispy, the peach is red and has a distinct aroma, different from the ripe red Chinese peach, fragrant but the meat is soft.

However, since the late 1980s, due to the fact that people did not care for, properly propagated or destroyed peach roots to grow other crops, Mau Son peach was gradually degraded and mixed.

From 1998 to 2002, a project to restore 2 ha of training under the Rural Mountain Program was implemented in Mau Son commune, but the results were negligible, productivity was still low, fruit was small and pests were .

Through guiding people to apply intensive farming methods to improve simple peach gardens such as pruning branches and fruits, transplanting and improving old trees, fertilizing reasonably and preventing pests by biological methods, scientists. helped improve productivity and quality of Mau Son peach garden.

After only one year, the first harvest has yielded very positive results, Mau Son peach has been different from previous years, more wrong, bigger and less pestilent. According to the local people, in the past two years, any peach has been wrong and the harvest is better than the previous one, instead of one crop of the previous crop.

Mr. Tran Quang in Pacdoi village said before, his family's 300-acre garden only collected at most 20 kg on each tree, the majority of unripe fruit had fallen out because of pests and diseases. But after applying the above techniques, each tree has up to 50 kg of peach and the size of the fruit is also getting bigger.

Scientists have also evaluated and selected 16 native native plants, able to grow well and produce high yields. These stumps will be used to propagate asexually for the restoration of the specialty peach area in Mau Son in the future.
