Revive the precious peach variety of Mau Son

In the past few decades, peach peaches - a precious peach variety on the top of Mau Son mountain, Lang Son province have been forgotten because of hybridization. They will probably continue to be forgotten if there is not a group of scientists from the Center for Experimental Biology (Ministry of Science and Technology) to participate.

Danger of tomorrow

Compared with the northern mountainous areas of our country such as Sa Pa, Bac Ha (Lao Cai), Nghia Lo (Yen Bai) ., Mau Son mountain (Lang Son) is blessed with natural and famous peach varieties. Best. The peach fruit here is colored, the taste is different from other places: When the outside is light green, the inside is red, the sweetness is crispy, the aroma is very characteristic. can forget. Each peach fruit of Son Son is as big as a small bowl.

From the late 1980s to the last century, along with the degeneration of breeds over time, the hybridization with bitter peach varieties, not being cared for, properly propagated (self-growing plants from fruit seeds dug and dug down), Mau Son peach tree is increasingly barren and devastated by pests and diseases; smaller and smaller fruits lose their value. The old peach trees died while the new peach was not planted. Even, there are many places, people still dig up the roots, planting instead of corn or other crops.

So far, the research on Mau Son digging is not much, especially the research works on selection and restoration of varieties. There have not been any studies on technical methods of intensive cultivation and improvement of the Mau Son excavation system. Imported peach varieties are introduced into Mau Son such as Eardy Grand, Flora Prince, and Maravilha. In the period of 1998-2002, there was a project implemented in Mau Son commune (Loc Binh district) to restore 2ha of Mau Son, however, the results were not as expected, the productivity was low, the results were small and many pests.

"Awaken" dig Tien

With the desire to reclaim precious peach varieties, scientists from the Center for Experimental Biology came to find out the cause of degenerating Mau Son. Since then, the topic "Research on selection, propagation and techniques of intensive farming of specialty training areas in Mau Son tourist area, Lang Son province" by MA Nguyen Thi Thu Chau and colleagues has been born. . After only 2 years of implementation, the results of the project have contained many happy signals. The staff of the project guided people in Khuoi Cap village, Mau Son commune (Loc Binh district) and Pac Here hamlet, Cong Son commune (Cao Loc district) with pruning and grafting techniques to improve the old peach garden; properly fertilizing; pest and disease control with bio-baits trap method . Thanks to simple and effective measures, scientists have helped improve productivity and quality of Mau Son garden.

After only one year, the first harvest has yielded positive results, Mau Son peach tree has been more fruitful, bigger and less pestilent. According to the local people, the last years of the peach season were wrong and the harvest was better than the previous one, instead of one crop of crop failure as before. If before, each peach tree only collected the most 20kg, unripe fruit had fallen because of pest, then now each tree harvested up to 50kg of ripe peach, sold 10,000-15,000 VND / kg, income from The cultivation of farmers is higher than the income generated by other crops.

The group of scientists who carried out the project collaborated with Vietnam Seed Association, Department of Crop Production, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Science and Technology of Lang Son province to study, evaluate and select the top peach trees. So far, the project has selected 16 native native plants, capable of good growth, high yield, good service for clonal breeding and restoration of the development of specialty peach areas in Mau Son. . With the help of the Department of Fruit Trees, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, the project has completed the process of multiplication techniques of grafting and grafting of peach gardens.

In the near future, Mau Son peach is expected to become a high-value specialty product, contributing to improving the lives of the Dao people and developing an eco-tourism area in Mau Son.
