Syndrome causes people to cry out blood

Some people suffer from strange haemolacria that makes them cry tears of blood.

At the end of 2015, Calvino Inman, living in Antioch, Tennessee, USA, cried blood after encountering a severe headache. The blood also flows from the patient's nose and mouth, making the doctors extremely confused.

According to experts, this condition is called haemolacria , in which a person's tears are partially or completely stained. Although this is a rare phenomenon, some medical documents have mentioned patients crying out blood, according to How Stuff Works.

In the 1991 study, scientists at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, explored the link between blood crying and fertility in women. Of the 125 subjects tested, they detected blood in the tears of 18% of women during menstruation. This figure in men is 8%, in pregnant women is 7%.

With the postmenopausal women showing no signs of blood in tears, the team thinks that the factor that causes haemolacria in women is mostly hormones.

Bacterial conjunctivitis or mild eye infections can also cause tears to contain blood. However, blood crying often disappears after the patient has recovered from the infection. The more serious cause is the tumors in the lacrimal apparatus , including glands that secrete tears and tear ducts.
