Thailand: 100 wild crocodiles in the flood

The Bangkok Post newspaper on October 11 reports from the Thai Wildlife and Plant Conservation Service that about 100 crocodiles, reared on a farm in the province of Uthai Thani, have swamped in flood waters.

According to the deputy director of the department - Mr. Thirapat Prayoonsit, crocodiles in captivity, they are even smaller and less than 1m long. He reassured the people that the alligators came out to enjoy living in the water and away from strong, passive currents and no tendency to attack people.

AFP said the number of people dying from floods in Thailand was 269, the number of casualties due to the worst natural disasters in many decades of this country.

Thousands of soldiers have been deployed to affected areas to save floods. Army trucks are carrying about 150,000 used sandbags from Phitsanulok province in the north to Bangkok.

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, although describing the situation as " a serious crisis ", is not yet required to declare a state of emergency because the government still controls the situation.

She admitted in the Bangkok Post newspaper on October 11 that the flood protection system in the eastern and northern parts of the capital was still incomplete , things were still racing at the same time.
