Thanh Hoa: A child died from H5N1

A 15-year-old patient in Hoang Hoa district (Thanh Hoa) died on August 3, on the way to the National Institute of Tropical Diseases and Infection. Test results positive for H5N1 virus. Before that, the patient's home has been raising geese and geese, gradually dying.

Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga - Director of Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), said the patient Cao Trong Toan (male) entered the District Hospital Hoang Hoa on July 27 in the state of difficulty breathing.

By 1/8, she continued to be transferred to the Provincial General Hospital. Suspecting patients with influenza A (H5N1) infection with progressive progress, on August 3, the hospital transferred patients to the National Institute of Tropical Diseases and Infections (Hanoi).

The patient died on a transfer. Test results showed that the patient was infected with influenza A (H5N1).

Mr. Nga said, the patient's family bought 20 small geese at Hoang Vinh market from July 19 to raise. The number of geese died slowly but the family did not report to the local veterinarian. Immediately, the Ministry of Health directed the destruction of waterfowl flocks, disinfection and disinfection around this family area. The ministry also coordinated to collect 33 samples from family members for testing, negative for H5N1.

Thus, the Ministry of Health has recorded since May until now, Vietnam has 7 more cases of patients with influenza A (H5N1), 4 people died. In total, there have been 100 cases in Vietnam infected with influenza, 46 deaths.

On the afternoon of August 7, at the meeting of the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bui Ba Bong commented, before the number of deaths due to influenza A (H5N1) infection increased, it should be redefined. Viral toxicity, at the same time, assesses the distribution of this virus in localities.

At present, there are 3 provinces with avian influenza under 21 days: Dien Bien (10 communes, wards), Dong Thap (4 communes) and Quang Binh (1 commune). Quang Binh last 17 days did not generate any new outbreak. Worryingly, recently in Dien Bien, people found thousands of poultry thrown into the river, and the locality had to organize salvage.

Therefore, Deputy Minister Bui Ba Bong still requires localities and people to be wary of flu because there are still more patients dying. In particular, the health sector needs to continue epidemiological investigations to detect patients early and thoroughly handle those suspected of having the flu.
