The bacteria resurrected after 8 million years of freezing
Researchers have just recorded a new record: the frozen bacteria for 8 million years . have been revived.
Discovered in ice cores in Antarctica, these bacteria were thawed in a laboratory at Rutgers University, New Jersey (USA). They then divided and reproduce breeds as if they had just woken up.
However, according to biologists, the health status of these bacteria is very bad. They reproduce very slowly. The cause may be due to sleeping too long in a frozen state. Their DNA has been damaged by ice crystals.
The record of surviving the previous freezing situation was 300,000 years. This proves that if the freezing situation lasts more than 1 million years, the chances of survival of the bacteria will decrease markedly.
