The climate heats up, threatening railways to Tibet

On March 10, leading Chinese meteorologists warned that climate change could jeopardize tourists using railroads linking East China with Tibet.

Mr. Qing Dahe, Director of the Chinese Meteorological Bureau, told the Beijing Morning Post that passengers traveling on the railway to Tibet who started using it in 2006 could be in danger due to the impact of real life. status is being alarmed about global temperature rise.

Meteorologists fear that parts of the tracks may not be as strong as the warming climate will melt the freeze below. With a route of 1,142 km and the highest point up to 5,072 m, this is considered the longest and highest railway in the world.

However, just before the opening, Chinese meteorologists warned that global temperature rise could affect the operation of this railway.

Mr. Qiangba Puncog, an official from the Tibet Autonomous Region who is attending the Chinese National Assembly annual meeting, dismissed the news that this railway was unsafe. However, Mr. Puncog also revealed that there has recently been a train derailment on the railway to Tibet but no casualties.
