The computer will be secured from within the processor

Desktops and servers will be secured directly from the processor instead of using software running on an operating system if the collaboration between security firm Symantec and Intel gives "sweet fruit".

Both companies intend to jointly build security features into the processor of the computer. The program is named Project Hood.

"The two sides will develop security software that can work with virtual technologies that Intel has incorporated into its computer processors, " said Rowan Trollope, Symantec vice president.

The software will specialize for computers to handle tasks like storing data, transferring music or securing a computer network. Instead of designing a security software to run on Microsoft Windows operating systems or other operating systems, Symantec and Intel built to be able to interact directly on Intel processors.

This may be a revolutionary combination between a security software company and a hardware company. It is likely that this will be a trend for the future when computer users will purchase security processors instead of security software as they are now.
