The Eagle Conservation Project receives an international award

The United Nations has officially announced the Phu My grassland conservation project, invested by the International Crane Society, implemented in Phu My commune, Kien Luong district (Kien Giang), selected to be awarded an international award for UN-HABITAT Program 2006 environmental protection.

This is an award awarded for outstanding activities in the world in the field of improving living environment. In this sixth review session (the biennial award), 720 projects are nominated worldwide, but only 12 projects are awarded awards. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates on March 28. The value of the prize is USD 30,000.

Phu My Lepironia Conservation Project has been implemented since December 2004. The project combines the conservation of 2,000ha of the rare remnant natural grassland of the Mekong Delta with the improvement of the lives of local people and the preservation of the traditional craftsmanship of the Khmer people living in Phu My commune.

The project conducts skilled training so that Khmer people can make high-end fine art products from the grass and help them consume their products (see the article ' Golden yellowing ' on Tuoi Tre on June 3, 2005). ). There are now more than 200/350 households in the project area participating in the project's production activities.
