Earth's tough metal core is an important component of our planet, increasing the amount of magnetic fields that protect us from dangerous radiation in space. However, since it is located far from the surface of the Earth, it is difficult to know what is going on.
One way scientists know about the Earth's core is to analyze sound waves from earthquakes that occur at the inner core and exert an impact on the outside. Through seismic observation and computer software, scientists at Stanford University (USA) have discovered that the rotation speed of the Earth core has changed in the period from 1961 - 2007.
Earth's inner core rotates to the east. According to this rotation speed, it can complete 1 rotation in a period of 750 - 1,440 years. Due to the unstable speed, it is difficult to predict when it will complete a loop around its axis.
