The emergence of new avian influenza virus is potentially lethal

According to the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza and Foot and Mouth Disease, a new bird flu virus has just emerged, spreading rapidly in the North and Central, potentially lethal.

Reported at the meeting of the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza and Foot and Mouth Disease in the afternoon of September 4, Mr. Hoang Van Nam, Acting Director of Veterinary Department, said that the H5N1 virus has just emerged, though still in the branch. 2.3.2.1, but there are differences with viruses 2.3.2.1 (both A and B groups) causing disease in Vietnam in 2011. This virus group is likely to cause bird flu to continue spreading in the near future. very high.

Currently, there are 7 provinces with avian influenza outbreaks with more than 180,000 dead.

According to the National Center for Veterinary Diagnosis, the new virus group appeared from July, until August it spread very fast and spread across a strip from the North to the Central. This new virus is relatively close to group A but much more virulent. Currently, the Center is preparing an experiment to check the protection of the vaccine with this branch.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Director of Livestock, the emergence of new virus branch can come from Chinese chickens."Where chickens go, the new virus appears there, the virus attacks both ducks and chickens," Son said.

At the work two weeks ago, the Steering Committee noted the arrival of the H5N1 virus group, similar to the virus strain in China. The Steering Committee and the Market Management Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) suspect there is a link between smuggled poultry and the spread of new strains. Therefore, this department has planned and organized reconnaissance routes for smuggled poultry, from border lines, bullets, to consumption places.

In response to this fact, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Diep Kinh Tan asked the Department of Livestock to closely examine smuggling of chicken breeds from China, because the ability to spread the epidemic of breeder chickens is far greater than that of broilers."The new bird flu virus is spreading fast, potentially deadly, this is something the Government is very worried about," the Deputy Minister said.

The Ministry of Agriculture leaders also noted the priority of using vaccines produced by Vietnam to avoid dependence on foreign countries.
