The first stingray was born in captivity

According to the Japanese marine life center Churaumi said, for the first time in the world a stingray was born in captivity. As soon as the baby was born, it was 1.9m in size and swimming.

An information was broadcast around the world from the ' aquarium ' Churaumi: For the first time, stingrays spawn in unnatural conditions. A 1.9 m wingspan stingray was born last weekend in this aquarium after 374 days of gestation. Churaumi is located on the southern island of Okinawa.

In June 2006, the broodstock couple were acquainted with the caregivers here, and now they are facing a big requirement: Care for their achievements. Because the newborn fish is not really familiar with the captive environment.

Mother fish originated from Okinawa waters and have become residents of this private marine life center for almost 9 years. The father has lived here for 15 years.

Stingray can reach over 6m in size. They live in tropical waters, their food is aquatic and small fish. Stingray is a species that gives birth but does not lay eggs like some other fish species.
