Fascinated by the local carpenter's furniture, since he was a child, He Yong had saved money to buy carpentry tools.

At the age of 14, he dropped out of school despite his family's objections to follow carpentry and by the time he was 17 years old he could make wooden furniture.

The Chinese worker had the idea of making wooden bikes at the end of 2016 with the aim of "showing the ingenuity of Chinese carpenters" to the world.

He Yong became famous online after making an 11km trip to be recorded and uploaded online.

A customer from Shaanxi Province contacted him to buy a wooden bike for 30,000 yuan (approximately 4,400 USD), however He Yong refused this offer.

He said: "This bike is like my friend. I don't want to sell it."

He had a bigger ambition to improve his work and make it run faster than a traditional metal bike.
