This year will be the release of a special edition at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The author of both versions is Michael Thompson who has released the S plinterBike Quantum (SBQ) version of this car to welcome the 2012 Olympics. Several design changes have been made to allow people to have Test your car at the Avion Adain event in London. These changes include height adjustable saddle to suit many people.

Launched in these days, SBQ is expected to have a good public effect like its previous versions. The second version of SplinterBike is designed to reach a speed record for fully wood-made vehicles. This special version is a combination of second and third versions of SplinterBike, which will be displayed inside the recycling body of the DC-9 sewing machine during the Avion Adain event.

The third version will be released next year with the goal of creating a new record for wood bikes. Racers will work together for 60 consecutive minutes and the total distance will create a record.

Designer Thompson says he has spent over 1600 hours designing, modeling, assembling and testing versions of SplinterBike. He has experience in creating highly feasible versions. One of the differences of the new version is that the tires are fastened to the wheel with glue. Five weeks is the time when the tire will be held under a wooden wheel. A new polymer tire has been improved with polymer material provided by Tremco Illbruck.

SBQ is made up of 88 parts and it takes more than 40 hours on CNC machines to produce. Thompson has spent more than 400 hours to clip the pieces of the frame. Although the design tried to minimize weight to the maximum, this version is 6kg heavier than the old version. Larger weight is mainly in the lower half of the chassis.

The new car still carries the characteristics of pliCog gear system but also has some innovations. The ratio has been reduced from 4: 1 to 2.5: 1 because the old car has some problems because the gears are too big.

In theory, 224 saw teeth on 6 gears pliCog will help the car go at a speed of 33.33km / h based on the driving span of about 100 and 56.66km / h when pedaling the sprint with a pedal span of about 170.

The handlebar section is extended to make the user more comfortable. The height of the saddle is easily adjusted to accommodate many people. Lignum Vitae self-lubricating system has bushings made from spare wood from Acle St.Edmunds Bowls Club.
