The Global Mars Surveyor is missing due to human error
The Mars Mars Global Mars Surveyor (MGS) has been orbiting the red planet for nine years and lost contact with NASA's aerospace agency since November last year. According to a preliminary NASA report, the cause of the MGS ship's disappearance is due to human error.
"The MGS probe disappearance due to a series of computer-related incidents occurred five months before the batteries were broken ," said Dolly Perkins, one of the center's mission managers. NASA's Goddard said.
After implementing the mission lasting four times longer than expected, the probe was closed on November 2, 2006. On this day, the mission team commanded the onboard computer MGS to adjust the orientation of the solar panels.
According to the report, the MGS has misplaced itself when one of the two panels is in direct contact with the sun's rays causing overheating, causing the two batteries to run out of energy. Hours after a power outage, the MGS has completely lost its ability to control the direction in orbit and goes missing.

The MGS was launched on November 7, 1996 and went into orbit around Mars in 1997, before starting to map the red planet in April 1999, sending a total of 240,000 photos.
The mission mission is expected to last for 2 years but thanks to good operation, NASA has 4 times decided to extend the operation time of MGS.
