The largest wingspan was 74km / h on the runway
Stratolaunch, the world's largest wingspan, successfully tested on a runway at an airport in California.
Stratolaunch passes the successful 74km / h taxi test at Mojave Air and Space Port, California, USA, last week, Yahoo News reported. The aircraft will be operational from 2019 to 2020 if the pilot program is progressing smoothly.
Stratolaunch aircraft made by Stratolaunch Systems, a subsidiary of Vulcan. It is the world's largest wingspan with a length of 117 meters. Stratolaunch has six engines, designed to carry missiles. During the flight, the missile will be dropped in mid air and launched.
The latest test is based on the first low-speed land test in December. As a result, experts will evaluate the improvements made to the steering and braking systems of the aircraft, according to a spokesman for Vulcan, Alex Moji.
"We are pleased to announce that all of the objectives of this test have been completed, with the aircraft running at a speed of 74 km / h." The data will be used to evaluate and improve the system. Flight simulation to train our crew , " Moji said.
Stratolaunch can be used for commercial or national security tasks.
Paul Allen, president of Vulcan, set up Stratolaunch Systems in 2011. In 2016, Stratolaunch Systems announced a partnership with Orbital ATK to develop missiles that could carry more than 450kg of satellites into orbit. Some improvements in the launch system include the ability to project equipment at any tilt, from anywhere in the proper runway range.
Stratolaunch can be used for commercial or national security missions, including the launch of small satellites for the US Department of Defense, according to Stratolaunch Systems CEO Jean Floyd.
