The less you sleep, the more likely you are to be obese

As if feeling tired from sleep deprivation is not enough, scientists have just stated that not having a good night's sleep can cause obesity.

>>>Obesity is an infectious disease

DailyMail reported that researchers at Rochester, Minnesota found that volunteers with less sleep, sleep deprivation tend to eat and consume more calories.

Specifically, they studied 17 healthy young men (both male and female) for 8 consecutive nights. Half of them have normal sleep while the rest only get two-thirds of the hours of sleep.

After that, they were asked to eat as much as they wanted during the study period.

'We checked whether lack of sleep changed the amount of hormones leptin and ghrelin (which are always associated with appetite) in the body. The indirect consequence is the amount of food that volunteers eat will increase as well, 'said Professor Virend Somers, the study author.

Accordingly, the lack of sleep (with less than 1 hour 20 minutes sleep time compared to the normal sleeping group) will average an average of 550 calories per day. Meanwhile, the amount of energy consumed during the day is almost the same, which is also the number of calories that the sleep-deprived group has no chance of being burned.

"Sleep deprivation is becoming more common, as up to 28% of adults say they sleep less than 6 hours / night," said study co-author Andrew D.Calvin. However, more research is needed to confirm their results, Professor Somers admitted.
