1. Monastery of " Tiger Cages " (Bhutan)
Taktshang is the most famous monastery in Bhutan because of the peril that visitors feel when they come here. The whole monastery is craggy on a cliff 3.120 m high, just above the mouth of Paro valley (700 from the bottom of the valley).
The name Taktshang means " tiger cage ". According to legend, Saint Padmasambhava flew to the top of a tiger's back. This monastery has 7 temples, all open to welcome visitors. According to the ancients, this palace was erected exclusively for Nyatri Tsanpo , the first emperor of Tibet, in the 2nd century BC. Later, this place became the summer palace of Prince Gampo and Princess Wencheng. The fifth Dalai Lama turned this palace into an Old-Yellow Hat Sect monastery.
4. Gregoriou Monastery (Greece)
Gregoriou Monastery was built on an unfavorable location for traffic but has a beautiful view. Located on the northwest face of Mount Athos , Gregoriou erected to worship St. Nicholas. Completed in the 14th century, this monastery consists of 20 large and small monasteries, and is considered one of the most organized and strict monasteries.
There are 70 monks here, each playing a different role in the monastery. The largest asset of this institute is the library with many rich titles, including 297 handwritten books, 4,500 printed books and 804 handwritten Bible books, theological books, religious books (including 1 handwritten Bible version from the 13th century).
5. Monastery of Metéora (Greece)
Metéora Monastery (Greek means "surrounded by stone" or " heaven above ") is one of the largest and most important monasteries in Greece, just after Mount Athos.
This monastery complex is built on natural stone pillars, located on the northwest edge of Thessaly area near Peneios river and Pindus mountain, right in the center of Greece. Metéora consists of 6 small monasteries and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage List.
6. Gradac Monastery (Serbia)
In remembrance of Queen Helen , the wife of the first king of Serbia, the people of this country built a small monastery 20 km from the town of Rašia in the 13th century. This monastery is designed with native style. combined with Gothic art school.
7. Ngaphechaung Monastery (Myanmar)
Ngaphechaung Monastery is in the middle of Inle Lake, on the way to the Phaung Daw Oo temple in Myanmar. This is a very charming monastery, built from rare teak wood in the late 1850s and is the oldest monastery in this area.
Only 25 minutes canoeing on the lake, tourists have come to the monastery with this ancient architecture. A special feature of the monastery is that the monks here raised a lot of cats and allowed them to play freely with tourists.
8. Monastery of Montserrat (Spain)
