The most accurate thermometer in the world

Physicists at the University of Adelaide have announced that they have made the most accurate thermometer ever.

Thermometers are available that can measure temperatures up to 30 parts per billion.

"We believe this is the best measuring instrument ever built," said The Australian leader Andre Luiten.

To measure such extreme temperatures, the thermometer uses two distinctly colored beams of light, including red and green, on the polished crystal disc.

The temperature of the crystal affects the speed of two fluctuations of light, so that scientists can calculate the ambient temperature based on observing the difference in travel time of light, according to report published in Physical Review Letters.

Professor Luiten's team says that similar technology can be used to measure other elements of the climate, such as pressure, humidity, etc.
