In 2019, archaeologists unearthed a 2,500-year-old golden scepter in an ancient tomb in northwest China's Shaanxi province.

According to experts, the golden scepter may have been a symbol of power of a feudal state named Rui, which existed during the Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC - 256 BC).

Sun Zhanwei, an expert at the Shaanxi Institute of Archeology, said that most of the scepters unearthed before were made of stone and bronze. This is the first time archaeologists have found a golden scepter in China.

Made of Javanese Cassia wood and inlaid with gold, the scepter "Than Phra Kon" is 118cm long, symbolizing the king's legitimacy.
