The mysterious death of a burned person in a closed room

The mystery behind the case of a dead man is answered by a study published in the American Journal of Forensics and Pathology.

US police recently received reports that a 53-year-old man died in a closed room. Police did not publish the time and place of the incident, as well as the victim's identity, according to Popsi.

Received the news of the victim's family, the police arrived at the scene and broke the door of the house where he often worked alone inside. They found the body of the man lying in the middle of the house, burned black, first, second and third-degree burns about 70% of the body. There is a small hole in the left side of the shoe that burns very badly and a scratch on the right thumb.

The air in the room at that time had a strange smell like a burning smell, but what made the police feel confused was that there was no smoke in the room and there was no trace of fire.

At first, the police speculated that the victim was killed and burned in another place and was dragged here. However, there was no sign of a scuffle, the room was locked from the inside, there was no other entrance or exit, no signs of electric shock.

However, an article published in the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology in March 2017 helped explain the mysterious death of this man.

According to forensic experts, the victim was struck by lightning despite being in a closed room. Steel beams in the wall reaching out to the house may be the culprit. When lightning strikes the steel beam, electric current runs from the bottom to the top creating sparks. Victims near metal objects such as saws will be struck by lightning on the left leg.

The electric current running from here through the heart killed him and ran out of his right thumb. The autopsy also supported this hypothesis, when no soot was found in his lungs, typical of the dead due to smoke inhalation. The concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in the blood is also low, only 3.9%.
