The octopus squadron 'raided' the beach surprised many people

What is the explanation for this "raid" behavior of octopus? Why did the octopus team come to shore?

Octopus is a strange animal. They have 8 limbs - rather than tentacles, blue blood, and up to 4 hearts. They are also one of the world's most intelligent creatures (though it doesn't look like that).

And recently, the strangeness of the octopus continued to rise, when it was discovered that a special team of octopus suddenly . crawled on the shore.

Specifically, the above video was recorded by a group of tourists on the way to the Ceredigion coast (Wales, England). There are more than 20 octopus crawling up to the shore after about 10pm.

"They came up from the sea, and we didn't know what caused it," said Brett Jones, the tour leader.

"Perhaps the reason is because the weather at sea has recently been somewhat intense, but I haven't seen it before. They are like walking on the beach."

In fact, this is not the first time the phenomenon of coastal raid octopus has occurred. In 2011, there was a video about octopus crawling up in the Ocean Reserve in San Mateo, California. In 2015, Dr. David Attenborough also produced a documentary for the BBC about the sight of the octopus crawling on prey.

With tides falling, many octopus species began to appear to "prey on remaining puddles".

According to Juilan Finn from Victoria Museum (Australia), this is in fact not a rare behavior in octopus. The problem here is that the octopus is nocturnal, so people often do not observe this phenomenon.

But why do they have to do that? Finn said, it is most likely because of finding food . At night, the tide recedes, many octopus species begin to appear to "prey on remaining puddles."

Octopuses breathe with gills, so they need water to survive. However, they can still live on land for a short time, as long as the body and skin are hydrated. They are able to absorb oxygen through the skin.
