The Olympic pool was still green and now began to stink

Authorities blamed everything from people to pH but there is no official conclusion yet.

The Olympic swimming pool turned green last Tuesday has now been closed because not only does it not return, it also starts to stink and can cause eye irritation for athletes.

Since Tuesday, the Olympic organizers have consistently assured athletes and spectators that the water in the pool is safe and the situation is under control. On Wednesday, a spokesman for the organizers announced that the water in the pool would return to green within that day.

Olympic pool water continues to change color and a rotten smell appears.

However that did not happen. Even the next lake was used for swimmers and the underwater polo ball also started to turn green.

The cause of swimming pool water turning green has not yet been determined. Authorities give a variety of reasons including the appearance of strange chemicals, thriving algae, too many users, and ultimately pH imbalance. It is possible that the organizers use a chemical to balance pH, which reduces the power of chlorine disinfection, causing algae to develop. In addition, warm temperatures, many people using swimming pools also facilitate algae growth.

However, the main cause has not been determined and the situation has not been overcome. Decreasing power also means the development of viruses and bacteria. That means pool water is no longer safe as claimed by the authorities.

In addition to problems in swimming pools, athletes participating in other outdoor water sports at the Rio Olympics such as boat racing must also play in polluted water environments, containing many dangerous bacteria.
