The only power in the world that has ever used a white flag as its national flag
This country has used the white flag for hundreds of years but not with the meaning of 'surrender'.
All countries in the world have a representative flag. The national flag is usually designed with simple lines and patterns, so as to highlight the spirit of that country.
The oldest national flag in the world is said to have originated in Denmark in the 13th century. This flag was used in 1219 AD when the Danish king led his army to fight in Estonia. When the battle became intense, the appearance of the red and white flag cheered the people up, helping them to win. This is the origin of the present day Danish flag.
So which country used to have a white flag?
Every country has a flag with its own color and symbol, but no one wants to use a white flag. Because the white flag is a symbol of surrender. For example, during the Battle of Berlin in 1945, German officers held a white flag to signify surrender while advancing towards the Soviet Union.
However, there was once a European power that used the white muscle as its national flag. That is France.
At the end of the 15th century, Burgundy and Picardy were amalgamated as territories of the Kingdom of France, gradually forming modern France over time.
At this time, the French had no awareness of the national flag, but the white flag was very popular with the Bourbon Royal Family. It is considered a symbol of the sacredness of the emperor. Later, the French Royal Navy also flew a white flag to show loyalty to the royal family.
During this period, France also banned civilian merchant ships from flying the white flag, marking the time when the white flag began to take on political significance. After 1775, during the American War of Independence, the French fleet showed support by flying the white flag.
The Bourbon dynasty not only used white, but also used the royal pattern and the iris flower as a symbol for the royal family and this is also another representative flag of France.
The first official French flag appeared in 1789. King Louis XV and his successor Louis XVI could not control the country causing the French Revolution to break out. Angry Parisians took to the streets with a flag of three colors: blue, white and red. White represents the king, red is the country, blue is the people. In 1794, the tricolor flag was confirmed as the national flag of the First French Republic.
However, the newly established French Republic operated unstable. The wars that repeat the Napoleonic and Bourbon periods continuously take place, causing the national flag to change as well. During the restoration of Bourbon, the royal family adopted the blue iris flag as the national flag. But both the government and the people found this flag too complicated. Many French people continue to use the white flag. In 1814, the government officially decided to use the white flag as the national flag.
In 1815, Napoleon returned and the tricolor flag was also raised as the national flag. But just a few months later, the regime was overthrown by the Anti-French League. Disputes over the French flag continued until 1830. It was not until the July Revolution in France overthrew the incumbent Charles that the flag of this country was 'as it is'.
In the tenth century, the controversy over the national flag came to an end. After hundreds of years, the French people finally agreed to stop using the white flag as the national flag.
After that, France went through World War I, World War II and reorganized the republic many times but the tricolor flag remained unchanged.
