On the morning of September 11, for the first time, the Ministry of Science and Technology held a meeting between 70 young scientists and Government leaders.

The Ministry of Science said that the meeting was to recognize and praise the contribution of young talents to the development of the country in general and the science and technology in particular. The ministry expects to create motivation for the scientific community to continue to develop passion, creativity, put science and technology into production, improve productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy and ensure national defense. This is also an opportunity for the Government to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of scientists.

According to the Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, in recent years, the achievements of Vietnam have made a very important contribution of young scientists. However, the Minister acknowledged that Vietnamese scientists still face difficulties, outdated research facilities, equipment, limited funding, and a wage regime that cannot ensure life to be focused on scientific research.

In addition, the number of leading scientists, experienced and highly qualified is declining, most of them are elderly, while the next ones are increasingly short of.The phenomenon of 'brain drain' is taking place when young scientific staff do not pursue a career in research but move to work in areas with more attractive income. Some good scientists after completing the master's and doctoral training programs abroad have not returned home.
