The smallest dinosaurs
The smallest dinosaur in the world is . a hummingbird. "Birds are a branch of dinosaurs that exist today," explained Julia Clarke, a paleontologist at North Carolina State University, USA.
Regarding the record of the world's smallest dinosaur, Clarke can point out several candidates.
In the Gobi desert, Clarke and colleagues discovered a 60 cm long dinosaur, Mahakala omnogovae. Similarly, a large head dinosaur named Micropachycephalosaurus is only 60 cm long.
With a length of 38 cm and weighing less than 170 grams, the slender creature Parvicursor is considered to be the smallest dinosaur in the world.
In Argentina, scientists mistakenly named the fossil dinosaurs found that Mussaurus means " rat lizard ", because of its small size. But subsequent excavations have found a giant version of this animal. Later, scientists realized that the fossil was originally found to be just a newborn Mussaurus . Adult animals can weigh up to 113 kg.
