Map of the surface geological spectrum of Mercury

Mercury's surface contains chemical compounds that reflect virtually the entire history of the planet's formation and development. Messenger spacecraft was sent to Mercury orbit from March 18, 2011 with the task of collecting information about Mercury and sending it to Earth. Recently, the Messenger spacecraft and the research team have successfully drawn a map of Mercury's surface geological spectrum, from which more specific research on history and geological composition is available.

Since its launch into Mercury's orbit, Messenger spacecraft has been relentlessly using X-ray spectroscopy (XRS) and Gamma-ray spectroscopy (GRS) to discover the rate and concentration of chemicals. on Mercury surface, in which, the components are arranged in pairs: Magnesium / Silicon, Aluminum / Silicon, Silicon / Calcium have the same average rate. Unlike the surface of the Moon, Mercury's surface does not have much rock.

Images of the surface of Mercury that Messenger ship sent, also showed that the surface is mainly volcanic terrain, forming a terrain with strata. Scientists are still debating the origin of the holes and marks on the surface of Mercury and initially stated that these holes are "very young" . Spectroscopic images from a magnesium-rich (magnesium) focused terrain show that these dimples are the result of a major collision.

XRS spectroscopy has detected a quantity of sulfur on Mercury . This discovery shows that the origin of Mercury's surface is composed of mercury, which is of great significance for understanding the nature of volcanoes on Mercury's surface.

Previously, Messenger spacecraft data also showed that Mercury's surface was shaped by the extensive volcanic activity, magma melted a part of the Mercury surface. The difference in geological composition indicates that Mercury has a completely heterogeneous surface.

Exploring the surface of Mercury will reveal the information about solar system planets

The discovery of Mercury will open the way to discover other planets, their formation history, the evolution and change of the entire solar system, from which to find solutions that have long been known people still expect from the stars.
