The test identifies all the bacteria that enter the body

According to mBio, geneticists at the University of Colombia, USA, have developed a test that allows the detection of the presence of 307 pathogens that medicine has known through saliva or blood . This test helps determine the cause of the infection almost immediately and eliminates the groping treatment.

In recent years, one of the most difficult problems of medicine is "viruses" - bacteria that are resistant to one or more antibiotics. Among them are rare pathogens as well as very common and dangerous pathogens such as Klebsiella pneumoniae.

It is known that accurate diagnosis is one of the ways to prevent drug-resistant infections that occur when using overdose antibiotics and inappropriate treatment. The test works as follows: magnetic nanoparticles can identify and capture the most unique fragments in the genome (markers) of all pathogenic bacteria thanks to the small pieces of DNA attached to them.

Once penetrated into the blood or saliva, the magnetic nanoparticles immediately detect and bind to the gene fragments of the pathogens. Next, magnetic nanoparticles are separated using magnets, and the DNA fragments they capture are multiplied in the laboratory. This allows easy decoding of pathogens or identification of strains of bacteria present in the body.

Orchid Allicock researcher shared that this achievement will allow doctors to quickly detect the exact traces of all the pathogenic bacteria that medical science knows, including bacteria that cause septicemia - one of the America's leading fatal disease.

In the future, experts plan to develop a similar test to detect fungi and viruses in case they infect the body.
