The type of blinking exposes the liar

To know if someone is telling the truth or lying, you only need to observe that person's eyes.

Psychologists from the University of Portsmouth (UK) claim that people blink in a completely different way when they lie. The number of human blinks decreases when they lie, then increases up to 8 times.

To clarify the link between the number of blinks and lies, the University of Portsmouth team asked a group of volunteers to do their daily tasks for 10 minutes, but didn't do anything. and then have to lie.

The two groups were combined into one and everyone asked each other about what they had done. Experts attach an electrode above the eye and an electrode at the bottom to monitor the number of blinks.

The results showed that, when not answering the question, the number of blinks of all volunteers was nearly equal. But when answering the question, the blinking frequency of those stealing test papers decreased. After that, the number of their blinks increased rapidly, while the eyes of the real people still worked normally.

The research team said that because of focusing the mind on hiding the truth, the liar did not blink.

'The liar creates a bogus event or conceals a real thing. When speaking a sentence, they must remember the sentences they had said earlier so that they became in agreement. In addition, liars must control their behavior so that listeners feel that they are being honest , 'explains Dr. Sharon Leal, team leader.

The expert team has yet to find out why the eye blinks faster after people lie. They argue that increasing the blink rate may be a way to release inhibition, stress due to lying.
