Chinese students invent reading devices by ... blinking

The group of university students from Changchun University of Science and Technology, Jilin Province, northeastern China invented a special reading device.

This device is intended to help elderly or disabled people read books without having to use their hands. Instead of blinking, it is possible to transfer book pages.

Qi Huanqiang demonstrated the reading feature by blinking to turn the page.

This special invention uses technology that senses the brain's signals , which can make it easier for people with disabilities to read books, said Qi Huanqiang, one of the students in the invention group.

Qi also directly made the invention useful by wearing a sensor-mounted headband to turn a page in a book every time he blinked.

The headband will help detect brainwaves, then send it to the device to turn the page with a Bluetooth connection. Qi said the product is inexpensive and useful for many people, both the elderly and the pianists.

This invention is currently attracting special attention on Chinese social media.

However, there are also conflicting opinions that the Qi device has some limitations such as being able to only advance, but not turning the page upside down. Another said: 'I don't think it's practical because I can't blink until I finish reading a page.'
