The X Prize held a $ 10 million prize for fast decoding of human genes
Decoding the genes of 100 people within 10 days, is a new challenge posed by the X-Prize Foundation. On October 4, the organization suspended a $ 10 million prize for researchers who are able to perform decoding of the human genome in a quick and inexpensive way to prevent disease.
Following the Ansari X Prize in 2004 to encourage private space conquest, the organization led by Peter Diamandis attacked the genome, launched the Archon X Prize with co-chair Craig Venter, one of pioneers in the field of human gene decoding.
Fast gene decoding is considered a future medical boundary that allows doctors to determine the risk of developing the disease, including cancer.
Three research groups joined the prize race. These are the VisiGen Biotechnologies Company in Houston, 454 Life Science in Connecticut and the Westheimer Institute of Science and Technology.
Peter Diamandis also announced an award for DNA decoding of many characters like Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft Company, Larry Page (Google), Stephen Hawking or Anusheh Ansari, the first female space traveler.
The Archon X Prize is sponsored by Stewart Blusson, Director of Canadian Archon Minerals Ltd, which specializes in diamond mines.
The $ 10 million Ansari X Prize sponsored by Ansari family was awarded to Burt Rutan engineer with SpaceShipOne aircraft in 2004.
