On a scientific forum taking place in Moscow, Russia on April 23, Deputy Director of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Mesyats said scientists in the country have discovered the International Space Station (ISS) is suffering from many kinds of micro 'attack' creature .
"The ISS station has detected many types of harmful microorganisms, which can cause equipment problems," Mesyats said .
There are 76 types of microorganisms on ISS
About 76 types of microorganisms have been detected on ISS, including pathogenic bacteria, fungi and microorganisms that can corrode metal. Russian scientists conducted a large number of experiments to kill microorganisms on the ISS Station.
Currently the International Space Station mainly uses the help of a special solution to kill microorganisms. However, this method is effective only on the surface or area of the human hand that can be contacted, and in places where the hands are inaccessible are becoming an ideal shelter for them to grow.
Associate Professor of Biomedical Research Institute Russian Academy of Sciences, Mr. Nicholas Barry Karpov, said Russian scientists are planning to install a special device called Alpha on the ISS Station, to destroy the This type of harmful microorganism.
Alpha devices were built in the 90s of the last century, which was the device for Russia's Mars research program at the time. Alpha can emit ultraviolet rays in the range of 200-400nm.
There are currently no microorganisms that can escape this ultraviolet ray. After installing the Alpha device, the microorganisms on the ISS will be completely destroyed.
