Thousands of asteroids are threatening the Earth

According to a NASA survey, about 1,000 asteroids flying near Earth could cause catastrophic damage if a collision occurs.

In 1998, in a project called Spaceguart, the US Space Agency discovered 90% of asteroids less than 1km or more from Earth.

Now, after the survey is completed, scientists say up to 93% of objects are flying very close to our planet.

"They can create significant collisions ," said Amy Mainzer, an astronomer at NASA's Jet Laboratory. 'This event has happened before and we do not dare to say the same thing will not be repeated'.

An asteroid or comet with a diameter of 5-10 km is believed to have hit Earth 65 million years ago. The consequence of the collision is the altered global climate leading to the extinction of dinosaurs and many other animals.

So far, the world has not had a satisfactory scenario to prepare for the situation of asteroids attacking Earth.
