The risk of asteroids stabbing the Earth is higher than expected

New research results have raised the probability of asteroids being bombed to a higher level than before.

According to Reuters, the California-based B612 (USA) has announced a new discovery that there have been 26 asteroids exploding in the Earth's atmosphere between 2000 and 2013.

This is the result of a worldwide monitoring system for nuclear explosions, including the Chelyabinsk sky explosion, Russia, on February 15, 2013.

Former astronaut Ed Lu, now leading the B612 Organization, said asteroids of size 40m were enough to level a city.

'Imagine a large building moving at Mach 50 (50 times the speed of sound)', Reuters quoted Lu.

It is estimated that one asteroid hit a globe every 100 years, but this prediction is not based on clear evidence but only by experts.

The goal of B612 is to launch the Sentinel private space telescope into orbit in 2018 to detect dangerous asteroids soon near Earth.
