The move to gain market share between the context of the need for small-sized memory cards is "hot", the daily Nihon Keizai said.
According to the paper, Toshiba will produce up to 3-4 million memory cards per month. With a size of 15x11x1 mm, microSD is only as small as a quarter of miniSD cards that are commonly used in mobile phones today.
At present, Toshiba has not given any comment on the information that Nihon posted.
MicroSD memory cards have been put into production since last fall, but unlike other SD memory card manufacturers (including Matsushita), Toshiba only dares to release every drop.
The reason is because the production cost is so high that the devices compatible with this super mini card are too rare.
A 1 GB microSD card has a retail price of 10,000 yen (85 USD) and Toshiba plans to release a 2 GB version next year. A 2GB memory card will be able to store up to 500 MP3 songs.
