Transgenic dairy cows produce human milk

Newborn babies can eat breastmilk produced from dairy cows after scientists from China Agricultural University successfully created a new genetically modified cow that can give milk like human milk.

Scientists from China Agricultural University have created 300 genetically engineered dairy cows that can produce a type of milk that has the same nutrient content and fat content as human milk.

The team believes the new milk helps mothers have more choices when caring for their newborn babies and helps mothers who don't have milk can be assured when their children can eat one. cow's milk is the same as mother's milk.

'This new milk is more nutritious than other regular cow's milk. In the next 10 years, people can easily buy this milk at supermarkets, " said Ning Li, a professor at China Agricultural University and head of the study.

Scientists say they used cloning to transplant human genes into dairy cows 'DNA before changing some of the cows' embryonic genes and switching to another cow to become pregnant, Create new genetically modified dairy cows that can produce milk containing lysozyme and lactoferrin like human milk. These proteins help protect babies from infection and boost the immune system.

However, many health scientists are concerned about the safety of this genetically modified milk. They argue that human milk and cow's milk are completely different in terms of the amount of nutrients and cow's milk that are less digestible than human milk.

Dr. Patti Rundall, of Baby Milk Action, said: ' We need to put human health first. Genetically modified products still have potential health risks that we cannot know yet . '
