Transparent wood used as an energy battery
Researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH Stockholm have successfully developed transparent wood materials used in construction and solar cells.
This must be the attraction for architects and carpenters around the world.New types of wood will fundamentally change the way buildings are designed and built today. Depending on how it is used, this wood can turn into a window looking outward or converting sunlight into energy.
In the near future, this kind of wood material will be used as a window.
To create this transparent wood, the researchers used a chemical process to remove natural wood, thereby helping to whiten the wood to see through. Of course, this transformation process is quite complicated. Finally, the board will be finished by pressing a layer of transparent polymer on top.
In the near future, this kind of wood material will be used as a window, or even a kind of outside-looking door, but the outside cannot look inside. Researchers believe that new wood materials can be used to create a handy transparent solar battery.
" Transparent wood is a very good material for solar cells because they are very cheap, stable and recyclable . This is especially important to cover large areas with solar cells." , Professor Lars Berglund at the Wallenberg Wood Science Center of KTH said.
In the past, transparent wood materials have been studied in a small-scale laboratory. However, the researchers' latest achievements will help produce this material on an industrial scale. It is believed that transparent wood will be a sustainable way to build better buildings.
