According to Wired magazine, the US Department of Defense is thinking of equipping handheld biometric scanners to scan faces, eyes, and fingerprints of objects with smartphones.
That's why the Pentagon has signed a contract with California-based Aoptix to develop the 'Smart Mobile Identification System , ' a tool that can turn military smartphones into scanners. Able to collect data by scanning eyes, fingers, voices and faces.
The Intelligent Mobile Identification System will be a replacement for the analog line in the military, short for HIIDE, of course bulky and must be used in conjunction with a ' bulky ' camera .
Aoptix's device will be compact enough to fit around a smartphone.
The technology will have two years to develop hardware and software that come with the new device, according to Mashable.
