Smart waste bins use solar energy and are a free Wi-Fi hotspot.

Bigbelly's first tests were conducted at the end of last year, when the company equipped two smart bins with wireless Internet connection in Manhattan.

Accordingly, the speed of this smart trash Internet connection is up to 50-75 Mbs, enough for users to download an HD movie within 9 minutes or upload 200 photos in 27 seconds.

Currently, Bigbelly is applying for funding to the New York City Council to expand the equipment of this bin to the surrounding areas. The company also plans to continue testing this year and deploy it on a large scale by the end of the year if approved by the city. Cities in the northern region of the United States will also soon show up of such trash.

Bigbelly's bins themselves are a smart device . They use solar energy with sensors to monitor the level and smell of trash in the bin, informing garbage collectors. Some trash can automatically shrink the garbage in the bin when it is full to receive more garbage.

Adding Wi-Fi features to street bins will also help wireless signals not be blocked by the city's high-rise buildings.

New York City's old public telephone stations will soon be replaced by new style stations called ' Link' . Link provides battery charging, free local calls with a tablet with city information. This is also a Wi-Fi hotspot.

It is expected that Link stations will appear on the street later this year with about 10,000 stations will appear in 5 different cities. Thousands of them will provide free Wi-Fi.

How do these Wi-Fi stations provide for free? Naturally, on the phone stations and trash will be displayed ads. CityBridge, Link Station management company is expected to collect about $ 500 million in advertising revenue in the first 12 years.
