Tuyen Quang: Discovered the ancient wreck in the Lo River

Vu Van, deputy director of Tuyen Quang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that during the survey and exploration on Lo River, Tuyen Quang province has discovered a wreck of a sinking ship under Lo River , at Phuc Loc village, An Khang commune, Tuyen Quang city.

The sunken ship is about 15m away from Lo river in Phuc Loc village, An Khang commune.

The ship is 41m long, 8.8m wide, 2m high, built of wood, the outer is covered with thin copper leaves, the shape of the ship intact is not deformed. There were five copper kerosene lamps and glass balls in the ship.

According to the inspection results of the Antiquities Assessment Council (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), this is a steam-powered, wooden-covered wooden freight train dating back to the late 19th century. In the 20th century, a number of ship lights were produced in England and Germany.

This ship was related to the first French colonial exploitation or related to the anti-French resistance period in Tuyen Quang province.

This type of ship is still very rare in Vietnam and around the world, has many valuable aspects in the study of the history of shipbuilding, ship type, as well as the culture and history of trade between Vietnam and other countries. countries in the world.

Currently, Tuyen Quang province is entrusting the authorities with absolute safety protection of the ship, and also building a salvage plan to bring to Tuyen Quang Provincial Museum for display and long-term preservation.
