US first tests alcohol-fueled aircraft
Russian Voice has announced the "Defense Dialogues Forum" that the US Air Force has first tested A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft using "alcohol" fuel .
Attack aircraft A-10 Thunderbolt II.
During the test, the fuel of the strike aircraft consisted of a mixture of ATJ and JP-8 jet fuel. Major pilot Olivia Elliott said the A-10 was easy to operate in mid-air, just as it was using conventional fuel.
The A-10 strike tests conducted within the framework of the US Air Force's program to convert all aircraft to alternative fuels. ATJ is extracted from sugar in wood, paper, grass and other plant materials that are rich in cellulose.
The resulting sugar is distilled into alcohol and then passed through pure hydrogen filtration. The final fuel feed received can replace the JP-8 standard jet fuel currently in use.
