US test system for detecting gunmen at school
A school in Massachusetts has been selected to test the gunner detection system, hoping to prevent future traumatic shootings at schools.
The system was developed by a technology company that detects and locates the SDS launches under the Department of Defense and the Raytheon Corporation of America.
In a hypothetical scenario, a gunman enters the school and starts attacking at the library, then runs through the corridors and classes. Immediately, the SDS system realized it was gunfire at the moment the bullets were fired. At the same time, smoke alarms on the walls of classrooms, corridors and other locations throughout the campus are also being activated and sent to the police and school boards.
After the test, the police said they were very happy with the effectiveness of the system when it helped the security forces to be present promptly and quickly caught the culprit.
According to SDS President Christian Connors, the new sensor system costs $ 50,000 to $ 100,000 per field depending on the level and scope of installation.
The technology is based on a system that has been developed successfully in the military to help soldiers identify the enemy's firepower in battle. Connors also revealed they are equipping the aforementioned system to two schools in Virginia and California.
